Material Failure

This seminar will discuss issues related to the adjustment of material models to consider ductile failure, which can sometimes be relatively complex. The seminar intends to look at the complete picture, reaching from underlying theories through material testing to the actual creation of a material card using LS-DYNA.

 

In more detail, the attendee will be introduced to the basics of material modeling and plasticity and how this affects the failure modeling. The concepts of diffuse and localized instabilities will be presented in detail followed by a general overview of failure prediction and the different possibilities to accomplish this in LS-DYNA. The course will also cover the failure modeling functionality in LS-DYNA including specific material models, GISSMO and DIEM. The attendee will also be introduced in material testing and parameter identification procedures with LS-OPT. Each segment of the course is followed by exercises to illustrate the various topics. Basic knowledge in LS-DYNA and LS-PrePost is required.
