Doctoral thesis on concrete modeling & LS-DYNA *MAT_CDPM

On february 21 2013, Ulrika Nyström will defend here thesis “Modelling of Concrete Structures Subjected to Blast and Fragment Loading” at Chalmers University of Technology.

On february 21 2013, Ulrika Nyström defended here thesis “Modelling of Concrete Structures Subjected to Blast and Fragment Loading” at Chalmers University of Technology, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Division of Structural Engineering.Professor Larsgunnar Nilsson, former president of Engineering Research, participated in the Examination Committee.

The thesis is in the area of realistic simulation of reinforced concrete under dynamic loading and has important applications in home land security and civil defence shelters. Among other work, in the thesis a new material model (CDPM2) for concrete is presented that describes the dynamic failure of concrete. It is shown that the model is able to describe the behaviour of concrete for a wide range of loading conditions, static as well as dynamic.

In cooperation with Prof. Kent Gylltoft, Prof. Rasmus Rempling, and Ulrika Nyström, the CDPM2 material model has been implemented in LS-DYNA R7 as material model #273 (*MAT_CDPM).More about information about the thesis is available here.
